Chapter Two-Tune to You, Stillness

IN THIS LESSON

Challenge:

Intermission Gifts—Island of Self-Love in midst of Swirl

STOP moving

Take it in

No app, no podcast or playlist. No journal. No kombucha or yoga. No partner.

YOU.

NOTICE.

If you are outside, perhaps you notice how incredibly loud the bugs are. Or the breeze stirring the hairs on your arms. Or the heat of sun on your face. The pace of your breath. How shallow is each. How deep.

NOTICE all external and inner arrivals in your awareness. Let them in. Perhaps there will be an aha, as in I had no idea the bugs were a symphony. Or my shoulders are tense. Or I can’t wait to get on with my day.

NOTICE with no agenda, no judgement.

Experiment. Maybe you sit, or lie down. Eyes closed, open. Do what feels good, what feels YES, true.

This is your intermission gift to you. Listen to what wants to be. Start with 5 minutes.

String these together each day so they become your ritual island of self love.

Appreciate this moment, full presence, discovery, awareness, aliveness, wonders, eternity, gratitude, humbleness, all that you are comes to ripen in stillness.

Chapter Three-Nature

Challenge:

Experience total freedom in snack-size tastes

The simplicity of sitting on a bench, listening … perhaps to bugs thrumming, a bird’s conversation, the leaves dancing in the breeze… or to silence.

Our entire cosmos of cells relaxes.

No phone or digital device welcome. Maybe not even a journal.

Just you and nature, on a date, which requires no dressing up or thank you notes.

Simply, presence.

Even a couple of minutes as we shift gears from one mode of our day to another, this is a cleansing intermission.

Your whole body-brain-heart will thank you.

Chapter Four-Opening to Wonders, Curiosity

IN THIS LESSON

Challenge:

What adventure, what knowledge, what discovery about the world and ourselves might we miss if we were closed to curiosity?

The presence to see our world with fresh eyes, opens our experience of it to endless positive and constructive possibilities and relationships.

Driving a different route, making tea instead of coffee, brushing your teeth with your non-dominant hand… these can all be mini-adventures.

What adventure will you open to today?

Chapter Five-Mystery

Challenge:

What is mysterious ABOUT you, TO you?

Write a love note to self noticing and even celebrating the mysteries you begin to see as you focus your lens on curiosities within.

Do we think of ourselves as open and flowing, but we begin to see our physical selves as rigid, hunched, clenched?

What might be at the root of physical smallness while our emotional state feels more expansive?

OR do I find myself frustrated by something in others I might not be aware I myself do?

NOTICE.

OR Where do I get my peculiar courage to write honestly, while I find it much harder to verbally express to people my transparent feelings?

When we see ourselves as a mystery to NOTICE and APPRECIATE (we are all complex and mysterious to ourselves in some way), that lens of love can bring those seemingly contradictory aspects of ourselves into closer harmony.

LAUGHTER helps here!

Chapter Six-Knowing Your Way Forward, Wisdom

IN THIS LESSON

Challenge:

What is your favorite inspiration to remind you of your inner fire and wisdom?

Don’t have one?

Write one to your heart.

What would you say to your 6-year-old self to let her know how she INSPIRES YOU?

Chapter Seven-Love

IN THIS LESSON

Challenge:

We have a powerful playful practice for you. It is most transformative when you make it part of your morning ritual for a month, possibly a lifetime.

When you wake, before you do what you do to present yourself to the world, gift yourself an honest moment, just you and your phone.

Take a daring self portrait… one that ignites your fierceness, gentleness, compassion, mystery, glow… whatever you are feeling as your strength or truth in that moment, capture it.

It is your touchstone for the day, reminding you as you glance at it, that you are your own lighthouse.

SEEING OURSELVES with LOVE. Shifts our lens.

Chapter Eight-Love, Part 2

IN THIS LESSON

Challenge:

Confession time.

In a private space, share with yourself via an impromptu video capture with your smart phone: What do you see ANEW when you see yourself with love?

Your life with love? People closest to you with love?

Chapter Nine-Leap

IN THIS LESSON

Leaping off Point!

When we create our days from the energy of play and discovery and curiosity, accidents become ahas, experiments are inspired by joy, questions are fuel for resilience and innovation.

Forget about “good”—good is not a badge of courage or greatness. Good is sticking to the midline so we won’t upset the apple cart.

Begin over and over.

Begin anywhere.

As you evolve from one adventure to the next, begin with each new inspiration, encounter, creation, breath.

Make up words, dances, recipes, celebrations, tools and rituals.

If you don’t have what you think you need, RIFF it into being.

The best surfers know we can’t force, we must flow. Riffing is our flowing.

Wander, nap, percolate, go on field trips and walks. Our brains love to ruminate on unrelated ideas and stimuli as we knit together new approaches, thoughts, vigor.

And always include a liberal measure of LAUGHTER + LOVE, as JOY and MEANINGFUL CONNECTION are the riches we can be most generous with and which matter most to our hearts and souls.
